Child Benefit

Child benefit is a social welfare payment to the parents or guardians of children. How much is paid depends on the number of children and their ages?

Who is entitled to child benefit?

According to the German Income Tax Act, child benefit is payable for all children until the age of 18. Child benefit can be extended until the child‘s 25th birthday if specific prerequisites are met.

In accordance with the Income Tax Act, German citizens receive child benefits if their place of residence or the place where they usually live is located in Germany. Foreign nationals living in Germany can receive child benefit if they have a valid residence permit.
