The IT Security team provides diverse measures to prevent and to react to IT security incidents. This work provides important input to the IT security of the supercomputer center and - inseparably related to that - the research centre at large. Beside technical and organisational measures as prevention the FZJ CERT team serves as reactive unit handling and coordinating IT security incidents. Furthermore, members of the security team actively contribute to various national and pan-European projects working on the development and improvement of IT security tools and measures.

    Technical measures

    [1]

The ODT IT Security provides diverse technical tools and measures as for example, amongst others:

    • firewall
    • log server
    • vulnerability scanners
    • antivirus software
    • multi-factor authentication
    • router with ACLs
    • demilitarized zones

    [2]

    Organisational measures

Organisational measures act as a complementary tool to provide the campus and supercomputers with a comprehensive and preventive concept:

    • local policies and regulations
    • training and awareness campaigns
    • close collaboration with the Information Security Officer and service providers
    • maintenance and enhancement of operational and stratgical security measure

Contribution to national and pan-European projects

JSC is part of various distributed and federated national and European compute and data infrastructures such as PRACE, EUDAT, HBP/EBRAINS and is becoming hosting site of the EuroHPC JU exascale supercomputer JUPITER. Establishing, maintaining and improving a common minimum level of security and mutual trust is the key for the secure operation of such infrastructures. Therefore, members of the security team actively contribute, often in leading roles to the respective security teams of these infrastructures to define common IT-security related policies and processes.
