Exascale Supercomputer

The Exascale Supercomputer Operations and Development Team is part of the High-Performance Computing, Cloud and Data Systems and Services division. As such, the team focuses enterily on the different operational aspects of the systems, to keep JSC's flagship supercomputers up and running efficiently to fullfil their mission and serve the research community that have access to these bleeding edge systems.

The ODT sits at the intersection between the Storage Systems ODT, the different system vendors, the Technical Infrastructure ODT and the Application Support division, orchestrating the collaboration between all these components to maximize system avaliability and performance. For that, a subset of tasks carried out by the ODT include:

  • System installation and customization
  • System administration and monitoring
  • Security updates and patching
  • Behavioral analysis of the different components
  • Usage model for batch systems
  • Performance measurements and tuning of system parameters
  • User authentication, accounting and quotas
  • Integration of different tiers of storage systems
  • Fast data communication between several systems

The ODT together with other groups within HPCCDSS also develops system extensions, integrates specialized software, and cooperates with vendors and other partners to establish a stable and rich data processing environment for research and development projects inside and outside Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Within the Program-oriented Funding (PoF IV) of Helmholtz Information, this group contributes to Program 1 “Engineering Digital Futures”, Topic 2 “Supercomputing & Big Data Infrastructures”.
