1st UNICORE Summit

The UNICORE Summit 2005 took place at ETSI Headquarters, Sophia Antipolis, France, from October 11 to October 12, 2005. The Summit was held in conjunction with Grids@work – 2nd Grid Plugtests.

The event gave users, developers, administrators, scientists and service service providers of the UNICORE grid software the opportunity to get a more detailed view on UNICORE, to present the work performed and the results achieved, to exchange experiences and discuss future developments. More than 50 participants from Europe and overseas followed the lecture program. The invited lectures of Dr. Wolfgang Gentzsch, coordinator of D-Grid, "The Status of Grid Computing in Research and Industry" and Prof. Satoshi Matsuoka, Tokyo Institute of of Technology, "NaReGi and UNICORE" were followed by an overview on UNICORE by Dr. Achim Streit, ZAM. Half an afternoon was devoted to UNICORE applications, current and future developments of UNICORE and the use and administration of UNICORE. Parallel to the lecture program, ZAM had a number of workstations for demonstrations and hands-on work. Results from the projects OpenMolGRID, DEISA, UniGrids and VIOLA as well as practice setting up the client and server software of UNICORE were also presented. The event was financially supported by Unicore Forum e.V. and took place at the same time as the conference Grids@Work.
