"K-scale" applications on the K computer and co-design effort for the design and development of "post-K"
Miwako Tsuji, RIKEN
K computer is the first supercomputer to achieve a LINPACK benchmark performance of 10 petaflops in the world. The K computer shows sustained performance in real world applications as well as the LINPACK benchmark. In this paper, through describing a wide range of applications, and focusing on two successful applications which had archived more than 50% of the peak performance of the full system of the K computer, we present problems and solutions in porting and scaling applications on the K computer. Additionally, we introduce our approach to develop the post K computer based on the lessons learned from the development of the K computer and its applications.
