On Sunday, 21 August 2002, - the "Tag der Neugier" at Forschungszentrum Jülich - , the Jülich Supercomputing Centre will be open for the public from 10:00 to 17:00.

The following activities will be offered by JSC under the theme "Supercomputing in Change: AI, Quantum Computing, Exascale":

JSC building16.4, entrance E1:

  • Window to the supercomputers
    Take a look at our supercomputers. Our employees provide explanations about the computers and the applications that run on them.
  • Style yourself with AI: How would a famous artist have painted you?
    Hands-on activity for smart phone owners.
  • Virtual reality for research: How is 3D used in science?
    How do you turn scientific data into vivid 3D images?

JSC building 16.3, old building - back side, entrance E1, training room:

  • MaTSE - Vocational training and accompanying studies
    Presentation of the apprenticeship as mathematical-technical software developer (MaTSE) and the accompanying studies in applied mathematics and computer science (B.Sc.) at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Campus Jülich, at 11:00, 12:30, 14:00, 15:30 (presentation duration approx. 20 minutes, in German);

    MaTSE trainees will be available throughout the day to answer questions about training and studies and will be happy to share their experiences.

  • SuperResi - Simulation of a Super Computer
    How can you write a code for a supercomputer in a nutshell? Our MaTSE trainees have developed software that vividly demonstrates how a supercomputer works. A hands-on activity not only for young people.
  • Guide the "fox" through the labyrinth (playful programming).
    A hands-on activity with easy programming tasks for younger people.

JUNIQ building 16.21, entrance E1

  • JUNIQ - Quantum Computers at the Research Centre
    Guided tour and explanations about quantum computing and the quantum annealer JUPSI for groups up to 20 persons, duration 30 minutes. The guided tours will start at 10:30, 11:15, 13:00, 13:45, 14:30, 15:15, and 16:00.
  • Quantum computing at the Research Centre
    Videos and presentations in front of building 16.21 in the pavilion.

ZB building 04.7

  • Estela Suarez from JSC will answer visitors' questions at the Forschungscafé from 11:00 to 11:40 on the topic "What can exascale computes contribute in the future?"
