JSC@ISC High Performance '24
The Arrival of Exascale in Europe

JSC at the ISC High Performance 2024 conference - 12th to 16th of May, Hamburg, Germany.
The Juelich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) will present its wide-ranging supercomputing activities at the GCS booth #K02 together with its partners of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS): The High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and the Leibnitz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ).
Focus topics include the innovative path to exascale, quantum computing and artificial intelligence. We will give insight into the upcoming first European exascale computer JUPITER hosted at JSC. We will present the growing Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ) including live access at the booth demonstrating its potential. Moreover, we will illustrate the steadily increasing importance of AI in HPC, which is reflected by developments such as the Helmholtz AI Cooperation Unit. On top of that, two exciting models will give our visitors a first glimpse of the upcoming Modular Data Center as well as the new PASQAL quantum simulator.
JSC employees will also contribute to the event with numerous talks, tutorials, and workshops:
Bernd Mohr will be the Session Chair of "HPC in Latin America", Kristel Michielsen will present "JUPITER: AI at scale" at the special event "EuroHPC - Recent Initiatives, News and Use Cases on Europe's Leading Supercomputers" and also co-organize the workshop "HPCQS Demonstration and Stakeholder Engagement". Andreas Herten and Lena Oden help organize the tutorial “Efficient Distributed GPU Programming for Exascale” in cooperation with NVIDIA. Together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Brian J. N. Wylie and Anke Visser join in organizing the tutorial "Determining Parallel Application Execution Efficiency and Scaling using the POP Methodology". In addition, Brian J. N. Wylie also helps organize the "First International Workshop on Readiness of HPC Extreme-scale Applications". Estela Suarez will talk about "Modular System Architecture for HPC and AI" in the focus session on "System Software in Support of Converged HPC Systems" and is co-organizing three more interactive presentations and discussions (BoFs).
Four additional BoFs are jointly organized by JSC members Kristel Michielsen, Florian Berberich, Cristina Manzano, Jenia Jitsev and Hans-Christian Hoppe.
JSC will also be presenting eight posters as part of the “ISC posters session”, which is designed for scientists to showcase their projects. One of them is ranking among the top three.
