Successful participation of JSC at the ISC High Performance Conference 2024
The JSC presented its diverse activities at the GCS stand at this year's ISC High Performance Conference in Hamburg. The main topics included the innovative path to the exascale computer JUPITER as well as quantum computing and artificial intelligence. One highlight was the live access to the expanding ‘Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ)’, which demonstrated its great potential to visitors of the stand. The focus also lay on the increasing importance of AI in high-performance computing. Furthermore, two models provided a first look at the upcoming modular data centre for JUPITER and the new PASQAL quantum simulator.

JSC employees contributed numerous lectures, tutorials and workshops to the conference: Bernd Mohr was session chair of ‘HPC in Latin America’, Kristel Michielsen presented ‘JUPITER: AI at scale’ at the special event ‘EuroHPC - Recent Initiatives, News and Use Cases on Europe's Leading Supercomputers’ and was co-organiser of the workshop ‘HPCQS Demonstration and Stakeholder Engagement’. Andreas Herten and Lena Oden organised the tutorial ‘Efficient Distributed GPU Programming for Exascale’ in collaboration with NVIDIA. Together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Brian J. N. Wylie and Anke Visser ran the tutorial ‘Determining Parallel Application Execution Efficiency and Scaling using the POP Methodology’. In addition, Brian J. N. Wylie supported the organisation of the ‘First International Workshop on Readiness of HPC Extreme-scale Applications’. Estela Suarez spoke in the Focus Session ‘System Software in Support of Converged HPC Systems’ on ‘Modular System Architecture for HPC and AI’ and was co-organiser of three further interactive presentations and discussions (BoFs). Four further BoFs were jointly realised by JSC staff members Kristel Michielsen, Florian Berberich, Cristina Manzano, Jenia Jitsev and Hans-Christian Hoppe. The JSC also presented eight posters - the one on the ‘Guided Quantum Walk’ made it to second place in the ‘ISC 2024 Research Poster Award’.
