FMMD-MPI: Frequency mixing magnetic detection for Magnetic particle imaging

This project is conducted jointly with ETRI, Korea.

With the novel magnetic particle imaging (MPI) technique originally developed by B. Gleich and J. Weizenecker (Philips Hamburg), 3D images of the distribution of magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) can be acquired. MNP can be functionalized with antibodies so that they specifically bind to proteins, cells, bacteria or viruses and act as markers. Recently, an MPI imaging system has been built at ETRI which is based on Frequency mixing magnetic detection (FMMD) developed at FZJ. Our aim is to further develop and evaluate this novel magnetic imaging modality regarding its perspectives for medical imaging.
