About Agustina’s Project: “Mind Blanking – Looking at the Brain When Thoughts Disappear”
We all know moments when our mind suddenly goes blank — when thoughts seem to vanish for a few seconds. But what exactly happens in the brain during these moments?
Agustina’s project explores this fascinating phenomenon, known as Mind Blanking, using advanced neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG. Her goal is to uncover the neural patterns that occur when the stream of conscious thoughts temporarily stops — moments when the mind is awake but not actively thinking.
Understanding these brief episodes can provide valuable insights into how consciousness, attention, and thought processes work. It may even have implications for clinical conditions that affect awareness or mental focus.
