Applied Machine Learning

The group focuses on designing and evaluating machine-learning algorithms and pipelines. The application areas include mental health and psychiatric disorders as well as basic understanding of brain structure, function and development.

Biomarker Development

The aim of the group is to identify, validate and integrate novel neuroimaging and digital biomarkers that can be applied for early detection and treatment evaluation of changes in brain organization in advanced age as well as in neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Brain Variability

The group investigates the relationship between variability of structural and functional brain organization and individual differences in experience, information processing and behavior.

Cognitive and Affective Biopsychology

The group “Cognitive and Affective Biopsychology” aims to understand better how the brain contributes to human behaviour. The group investigates cognitive and socio-affective processes and their associations with brain activity, connectivity and morphology by applying state-of-the-art methodologies such as machine learning and large-scale meta-analyses.

Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences

The group investigates brain organization at the macroscale and its relationship to cognitive functioning.

Cognitive Neurogenetics

The aim of the research group is to investigate how congenital and environmental factors shape the structure and function of the brain.

Data and Platforms

The primary focus of the Data & Platforms group is to build and share robust, open, and reproducible environments/services that are tailored to the needs of neuroimaging researchers.

Mathematical Neuroscience

The group primarily aims to derive, validate and investigate mathematical models of neuronal networks based on empirical data.

Multiscale Neurodevelopment

The team is dedicated to the study of brain development from childhood through adulthood. The group aims to use innovative in vivo imaging techniques, such as structural and functional MRI, to better understand the healthy and pathological development of the brain. The focus is on analyzing the microstructure, connectivity and functional dynamics of the brain. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between structural changes and the functional differentiation of the brain at different stages of development.

Neuroethics and Ethics in AI

The research group Neuroethics and Ethics in AI deals with ethical questions raised by modern cognitive science research. These include, for example, questions about how central research and medical-ethical principles can be implemented in the therapy and research of psychiatric diseases and how neuro-enhancement is to be evaluated ethically.

Psychoinformatics

The group "Psychoinformatics" focuses on the interface of neuroscience, psychology and computer science and the combination of classical experimental methodology with machine learning methods.

Sleep, Brain, Behaviour

The goal is to improve the understanding of sleep disturbance and its effects on the brain and behavior. We investigate how sleep affects our physical and mental health in order to find better ways to treat and prevent neurological and psychiatric disorders.
