Functional Polymer Nanocomposites
Responsive polymeric materials for multifunctional applications in engineering, optics and medicine often are based on nanocomposites, e.g. blends of a polymer matrix with nanoparticles. The controlled molecular design of the multifunctional nanocomposites leads to build-in ability to respond to physical (magnetic or mechanical) or chemical stimuli. We synthesize nanoparticles and graft them with polymer to reach highly dispersed system and study the response to magnetic and mechanical forces. The relation between the microscopic structure, the dynamics of polymer chains and the macroscopic properties is studied by neutron scattering (SANS and NSE)
