PhD and Postdoc Positions

We permanently offer PhD projects (Dr. rer. nat) in the research fields

- Topological interfaces, nanostructure, and devices for quantum computing
- Spin qubits at surfaces of condensed matter
- Unconventional magnetism and highly correlated spin-systems
- Nanofabrication with single molecules
- Advanced imaging methods for quantum nanoscience

More details about the actual research projects are available on request.

Salaries are competitive (TvöD + allowance depending on the candidate's profile), teaching load is low and dissertations are usually completed within three years. Equal opportunities are a cornerstone of our staff policy for which we have received the "TOTAL E-QUALITY" award.

Requirements

Candidates with an MSc or equivalent degree in Physics, Chemistry or a related discipline, with an overall grade of at least "good", are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application

Please send your application, including the relevant documents and stating your interests, preferably via e-mail.

Openings

We currently have the following open positions:

PhD thesis project: "Unconventional 2D Magnetism in Twisted vdW Heterostructures" with Prof. Markus Ternes

This project investigates unconventional two‑dimensional magnetism in van‑der‑Waals heterostructures. You will fabricate twisted stacks of novel 2D magnets on diverse substrates and employ advanced scanning‑tunneling microscopy to probe their atomic‑scale, potentially altermagnetic, behavior.
