ISEG Best Poster Award for Dr. Susanne Wolff

Dr. Wolff, a postdoctoral researcher at PGI-3, won the first prize in the Best Poster Award competition at the International Symposium on Epitaxial Graphene (ISEG 2026), which took place in Chemnitz, Germany, in September 2026. In her poster presentation entitled “Selenium Intercalation of Graphene on SiC(0001)”, she presented the competing processes of selenium (Se) intercalation and incorporation into the topmost silicon (Si) layer of SiC. The fact that the latter effect occurs in such intercalation systems (not just for Se, but also for other species) was only discovered recently and is lively discussed in the community ever since. With her poster, Dr. Wolff demonstrated that a comprehensive understanding of such an intercalation system can be achieved by using several complementary techniques including photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and ARPES) and low-energy electron microscopy and diffraction (LEEM and LEED).

Susanne Wolff joined PGI-3 just three months ago from TU Chemnitz. Therefore, winning the poster prize also honors the ongoing collaboration between her former and current institutes.
