Ad Hoc Teleworking

Limited-term pilot project from 1 March 2014

On 1 March 2014, Forschungszentrum Jülich started a pilot project on “Ad Hoc Teleworking”, initially for a one-year period. As part of the project, employees are able to undertake certain types of work at home. All employees with an employment contract pursuant to the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD) can make use of ad hoc teleworking. Ad hoc teleworking is primarily applicable for tasks that at least temporarily do not require you to be present at Forschungszentrum Jülich – for example, because of personal contact with customers, presence during shift work, or availability of technical equipment.


Ad hoc teleworking is intended to make the organization of work more flexible and represents an additional instrument for combining family and career. This makes it easier to react flexibly to individual work-related or private situations for important business or personal reasons, and in the case of need arising unexpectedly (emergencies). Work-related reasons could, for example, be the need to complete a publication or to draft a concept. Personal reasons could be an appointment with workmen at home or the need to look after a sick relative. An emergency might, for instance, be if there is a sudden or unexpected difficulty in childcare arrangements.
