A perfect encounter: The flyby that possible shaped the outer solar system

Abstract:

The SDL Astronomy and Astrophysics focusses on the topics of star and planet formation. In this talk we show a recent high-light of our work. In recent years, surveys have discovered many sub-planet-sized objects in the Solar System’s outer reaches, beyond Neptune’s orbit. These trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) hold vital clues to understanding the Solar System’s formation. However, the dynamics of these objects is complex and many aspects unexpected. Here, I’ll show that a specific close flyby of another star can explain the TNOs dynamical properties of the known TNOs on a quantitative level. We use this science example, to demonstrate how simulation data conform more with the FAIR principles.
