Since July 2018, the ESM partition of the JUWELS cluster module provides HPC resources dedicated for Earth System Modelling (ESM). The aim of this partition is to enable frontier simulations in this field of crucial societal relevance as well as the initialization, tuning, and coupling of various models and submodels which sum up to an emerging Helmholtz ESM system. It is also foreseen that the JUWELS booster module, which is planned for early 2020, will be extended with an ESM partition. This course provides an overview of current developments at JSC related to the JUWELS system and gives users from the Helmholtz ESM project (https://www.esm-project.net/) the opportunity to discuss their specific issues and challenges. The course is specifically tailored to the interests and needs of the ESM community.

Basic knowledge on HPC and ESMs.

Please bring your own laptop for the "hands on" sessions. (Internet is available on campus via eduroam.)

Please register with Olaf Stein (o.stein@fz-juelich.de) until 31 January 2019.
If you do not belong to the staff of Forschungszentrum Jülich, we need these data for registration:
Given name, name, birthday, nationality, complete home address, email address

In addition, please specify the ESM models you would like to use in the hands-on sessions as well as any issues in your work on the JUWELS ESM partition.
