Since July 2018, the ESM partition of the JUWELS cluster module provides HPC resources dedicated for Earth System Modelling (ESM). The aim of this partition is to enable frontier simulations in this field of crucial societal relevance as well as the initialization, tuning, and coupling of various models and submodels which sum up to an emerging Helmholtz ESM system. It is also foreseen that the JUWELS booster module, which is planned for early 2020, will be extended with an ESM partition. This course provides an overview of current developments at JSC related to the JUWELS system and gives users from the Helmholtz ESM project ( the opportunity to discuss their specific issues and challenges. The course is specifically tailored to the interests and needs of the ESM community.
