Millions for Jülich Neutron Research

Staatssekretär Thomas Rachel (links) überreichte in Berlin den Bewilligungsbescheid an Prof. Sebastian M. Schmidt, Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Forschungszentrum Jülich will receive roughly € 6.4 million in funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for its contribution to the planning phase of the European spallation source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden. Thomas Rachel, Member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary in BMBF, presented the notification of approval to Prof. Sebastian M. Schmidt, member of the Board of Directors and coordinator of the German contributions to the ESS. BMBF is initially providing the German research institutions and universities involved in the planning phase with funding totalling € 15 million.
