Obituary: Tobias Cronert

On Saturday, 31 October 2020, our much-loved  and respected colleague Tobias Cronert passed away.

Tobias Cronert was a dynamic, enthusiastic young scientist, who sadly left us much too soon. As a PhD student at JCNS, his outgoing and engaging personality meant that he was always motivated, and tireless in bringing us all closer to his research. His courage and zest for life were contagious and his example constantly inspired and encouraged us all. He always had a hands-on attitude to his work, and with great energy and commitment drove the high-brilliance neutron source project HBS forward. His communication skills and activities, such as his science blog “Nucular” and the Jülich blog “Neutron Sauce”, as well as numerous lectures at workshops and conferences, will remain vividly in the memory of many. His consistently positive attitude towards scientific as well as personal matters have left a lasting impression on us all.

Tragically, after a long battle, Tobias Cronert lost the fight against a serious illness. We shall sorely miss a singularly dedicated and beloved colleague and friend. We mourn his loss with his family and relatives, and wish them courage and fortitude at this difficult time.
