Objectives and Themes

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and The Institute for Bio- and Geosciences Plant Sciences (IBG-2), Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany are pleased to announce a call for proposals for NSTDA-JÜLICH Joint Research Program.
This initiative aims to bring together relevant and competitive researchers from NSTDA and JÜLICH to design and carry out jointly organized research projects of outstanding scientific quality. Funding within this initiative will be available for collaborative research projects consisting of researchers from both institutions. The collaborative research projects must involve active communication and cooperation between the participating researchers.
In compliance with the Framework Cooperation Agreement (phase II) signed by NSTDA and JÜLICH on 28 March 2024, both institutes agree to launch Joint Research Projects for Preliminary study and Capacity building/Research-based training projects.
Under the NSTDA-JÜLICH Joint Funding Program for Joint Research Projects in the themes of the following domains can be submitted:
Theme 1 - Smart Agriculture
Theme 2 - Regionalization of Bioeconomy
Theme 3 - Value-Added Products for Bio-Circular-Green Economy

Duration
The collaborative projects selected to take part in the initiative will receive research funding for a period of up to 1 year.
Available Funding
NSTDA will fund the research development and capacity building activities. The fund will be made available up to 1,000,000 THB per 1 year per project. JÜLICH will fund the research development and capacity building activities. The fund will be made available at least 26,000 EUR per 1 year per project. If the project requires more funding, JÜLICH would consider further support. If the project requires more funding, JÜLICH would consider further support.
Remarks: NSTDA and JÜLICH funds will be disbursed to their own researchers through relevant NSTDA and JÜLICH institutes “no money crossing borders”.
Who can apply?
NSTDA and JÜLICH researchers who have a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal can apply.
For NSTDA applicants, the proposals must be approved to submit by the executive Director of respective National Centers.
How to apply?
Full applications must be submitted by Principal Investigator (PI) on behalf of NSTDA and JÜLICH via electronic mail (patchata.ump@nstda.or.th) together with a hard copy of application signed by the respective authorized persons to NSTDA’s International Collaboration Division by 31 July 2024.
Remarks:
1. Proposals must be written in English jointly by the PIs in Thailand and Germany. The title, names of the Thai and German PIs, project description, methodology, work packages, etc. in the research proposal submitted by the Thai and German PIs should be identical.
2. Proposals arriving late and/or those not fulfilling the national requirements will not be considered.

Assessment and Decision-making Process
To be funded, proposals must be internationally competitive and at a standard equivalent to that normally expected to be supported by NSTDA and JÜLICH
1. Evaluation criteria for the submissions will be:
- Scientific excellence and originality of the proposal
- Quality and appropriateness of exchange of knowledge among the project partners; added value of bilateral research cooperation
- Scientific excellence of project partners
- Potential impact and contribution to the scientific community, expected exploitation of the results
- Quality of the proposed measures to disseminate the project results
- For NSTDA, submitted proposals shall be related to BCG Implementation programs (Battle/Pre-battle)
2. Eligible applications will be evaluated and done separately by the NSTDA and JÜLICH. The results of the review process will then be shared between two institutes.
3. Funding decision will be made through NSTDA– JÜLICH Steering Committee in September 2024.
4. Once the funding decision is made, NSTDA applicants must submit full proposal to respective authorized persons within 1 month after the result announcement.
