Moving to Germany

Assessment of foreign university degrees

If you have obtained a university degree abroad, an assessment of its comparability with a German university degree is required for employment. This is done via the anabin portal ("recognition and assessment of foreign educational certificates"), which is provided by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). The portal provides information on the evaluation of foreign educational qualifications and supports authorities, employers, and private individuals in classifying foreign qualifications within the German education system. If the degree is not listed in anabin, an individual, fee-based certificate evaluation by the ZAB is required. This must be applied for by the person concerned.

Further information on the ZAB and the recognition of foreign university degrees can be found here.
