JSC @ Supercomputing Conference SC 2020 - "SC20 Is Everywhere We Are"

9-19 November 2020
Virtual

Due to the Corona pandemics this year's SC, the leading international exhibition and conference on high-performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis, takes place as a virtual conference and exhibition for the first time.

JSC together with its partners ParTec and the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) present their manifold activities on a brand new virtual booth offering all information at your fingertips. Central topic on the booth is the concept of "Modular Supercomputing Architecture" (MSA). This year's highlight is the just installed JUWELS Booster Module. This module with its 75 PFLOP/s peak performance is based on NVIDIA's A 100 graphics cards of the latest generation and complements the previous modules to create the fastest supercomputer in Europe. Co-design partner ParTec presents its expertise as one of the leading SMEs in the HPC domain and its key contribution to the modular software stack for operating and using modular supercomputers. The topic MSA is completed by the DEEP projects, which are also present at the booth and showcase their latest, energy efficient MSA prototype system, whose installation was completed at JSC this year.

Another focus are computing infrastructures in which JSC plays significant roles.  The first one is the Juelich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum Computing (JUNIQ), which will offer users access to different quantum devices. It has started this year with access to a quantum annealer from D-Wave. Secondly, two infrastructures driven by the Human Brain Project are presented: the EBRAINS research infrastructure, providing services for brain research, as well as the Fenix infrastructure, which provides the underlying e-infrastructure services.

Within JARA the activities and services in the Center for Simulation and Data Science (CSD) are highlighted and videos about the developments of and contributions to HPC tools are shown.

In addition JSC demonstrates in-house developed HPC tools like LLview, SIONlib, JUBE, and Scalasca and presents its support infrastructure.

Application focus this year is again the Earth system and climate sciences with the Pilot Lab Exascale Earth System Modelling. Two brand-new visualizations are presented together with an overview over the activities of the SimLab climate and Terrestrial systems.

As part of the conference programme, JSC employees will co-organise the workshop "ProTools 2020: Workshop on Programming and Performance Visualization Tools", give presentations in the tutorial "Practical Hybrid Parallel Application Performance Engineering", present talks, and participate in special interest group sessions and panel discussions.

So take a tour over our virtual booth and get in touch with us!
