First JUQUEEN Porting and Tuning Workshop (PATC course)

Workshop, 4-6 February 2013, Jülich Supercomputing Centre, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany

Start
4th February 2013 08:00 AM
End
6th February 2013 04:00 PM
Location
Jülich Superomputing Centre, lecture room no. 021

The commissioning of the new Blue Gene/Q petaflop supercomputer JUQUEEN marks another quantum leap in supercomputer performance at JSC. At the same time, it is recognized that special efforts by the users are necessary in order to get the most out of this unique research tool.

The aim of this hands-on workshop is to support current users of JUQUEEN in porting their software, in analyzing its performance, and in improving its efficiency.

It is highly recommended that project PIs send at least one expert on their code to this workshop.

Prerequisites

Participants should belong to a currently active simulation project on JUQUEEN (project-ID!) and should already have an active user account (user-id!). Test runs during the workshop will be done on the participants' own project accounts.

In order to gain maximum benefit from this workshop, participant should have an in-depth (hands-on) knowledge of the algorithms and codes used in their project.

Agenda

Day 1, morning: Overview Presentations

Day 1 afternoon and following days

  • Work on own application: porting, analysis, and optimization

  • Support by experts:

    • Performance Tools
    • IBM-staff
    • Simulation Labs
    • JSC application support

  • Talks and Breakout-Sessions

    • special topics
    • problems of particular scientific fields
(depending on audience; e.g. QCD, fluid dynamics, plasma physics)

The detailed agenda is available as pdf:  Agenda for the JUQUEEN Porting and Tuning Workshop (PDF, 406 kB)

Application

Registrations are only considered until 14 January 2013.

Note that in the application form we ask some information about your project and code in order to better plan the workshop program. This workshop is a Prace Advanced Training Centres course. The application form is provided on the PRACE website.

Due to available space, the maximal number of participants is limited. Participants will be notified until January 18.
