ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System)
The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences - Agrosphere (IBG-3) at Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) operates three ICOS sites, which are part of the European infrastructure for observing greenhouse gases. These sites are closely integrated into the TERENO observatory “Eifel/Lower Rhine Valley Observatory”. At the same time, the sites are part of the European eLTER network, which enables long-term, interdisciplinary environmental observations at landscape level. All three sites contribute significantly to the quantitative assessment and understanding of the greenhouse gas balance in Europe by providing continuous and harmonized measurements. The data obtained supports the projections of future responses of the global carbon cycle as well as greenhouse gas emissions and concentrations.
