The properties of colloids and biomolecules are investigated using confocal and conventional microscopy as well as light, x-ray, neutron scattering, and rheology. We are particularly interested in the behaviour of these systems under non-equilibrium conditions. This includes the kinetics and evolution of phase transitions or the colloidal dynamics in external fields, such as mechanical (i.e. shear) and light fields (i.e. extended optical tweezers).
