Labs!

First-hand information on techniques and methods

After a long break, we are excited to offer face-to-face events again starting January 2023. Unfortunately, lab visits are until further notice announced internally and open for IHRS-BioSoft fellows only. If you want to become a fellow, all PhD students in IHRS BioSoft member institutes are welcome to apply!

Food for thought: Come and join us! Labs! is a series of events that include lab visits, lab courses, and short presentations. The events provide opportunities to learn about, see, and gain hands-on experience with various techniques and methods. Occasionally Labs! events will address dissemination.

Labs! events are open to everyone, but they aim at doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. If an event is overbooked, IHRS BioSoft fellows on the waiting list will be given priority. Participants are expected to actively engage in discussions with the presenting colleagues and other participants of the event.

We look forward to welcoming you at a Labs! event soon!

Upcoming events

The list of upcoming events will be regularly updated--please check back to this page for updates! To join a Labs! event, online registration is mandatory. Subject to availability, you will then receive confirmation of your place at the event.

Scope

The aim of Labs! events is to enable you to gain insights into techniques and methods. You will have opportunities to get authentic information on facilities and devices in a variety of research areas. Short talks provide information for specific aspects, lab visits allow you to see specific equipment, and lab courses provide hands-on information on methods. In addition to performing research, it is important to communicate it to other scientists and to the public. Some Labs! events will address dissemination.

Format

Labs! events will take place in various locations at partner organisations. They usually combine a presentation or a lab visit with time for discussions. Typically small numbers of participants ensure ample discussion and networking opportunities. Furthermore, the informal atmosphere facilitates networking with other participants. The events range from lunch seminars and short lab visits to both, short and long, lab courses. Labs! seminars are open to all interested colleagues from partner institutions, but online registration is mandatory. Participation will be confirmed suject to the availability of free places.

Registration

Registration must be done online and participation is subject to confirmation. If the date and title of an event cannot be chosen in the registration form, both participant list and waiting list are full.

In case you realise that you cannot participate in an event for that you have registered, please cancel your participation here. The next colleague on the waiting list will then get invited immediately.

Cancellation

A Labs! event is usually offered for a small number of participants only. Therefore it is important that both, confirmed participants and colleagues on the waiting list, cancel their registrations if they cannot participate.

In case you realise that you cannot participate in an event for that you have registered, please cancel your registration online. Even on very short notice the next colleague on the waiting list will get invited immediately. If closed, online registration for this event will be again opened.

Suggest an event!

You are very welcome to suggest a topic for a future event, both if you would like to learn more about a specific technique or method or if you can offer a lab visit, a lab course, a lunch seminar, or anything that fits to the scope of Labs! events.

To suggest a topic for a for a Labs! event, please send an email to biosoft@fz-juelich.de.

You are invited!
