A great challenge of modern physics is to understand complex systems such as found in nanotechnology and biology. Statistical Physics provides the basis for understanding the structure and the dynamic processes in such complex supramolecular systems. The lecture will introduce the principles of Statistical Physics and illustrate its application with examples from Soft Matter (colloids, polymers, and membranes) and Biophysics of the cell. The lecture will provide the basic knowledge required for more advanced lectures on the physics of polymers, colloids, membranes, and cells.
