SpEx

SpEx is a research database designed to investigate the relationships between language, executive functions and individual differences.

In the Brain Variability research group at the INM-7, we collect extensive behavioural and language data from healthy German-speaking adults. The aim is to better understand how linguistic characteristics relate to executive functions and to what extent language allows conclusions to be drawn about cognitive abilities.

The database offers researchers the opportunity to analyse behavioural data from standardised tests of executive functions alongside productive language data. The language data includes word fluency tasks, picture descriptions, and spontaneous speech production in the form of retellings and fictional narratives. This data is supplemented by demographic and hormonal information. By combining modern methods of language processing with neuropsychological measurements, SpEx enables the investigation of individual differences and the identification of potential language-based markers of cognitive functions.
