ZB to Produce Indicator Reports for BMBF Pact Monitoring 2016–2020
The Central Library’s (ZB) Bibliometrics team has won two lots in the tender for annual indicator reports for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s (BMBF) Pact for Research and Innovation (PFI III).
11 July 2016
In collaboration with the Catholic University of Leuven’s bibliometrics team, which is part of the Centre for Research & Development Monitoring (ECOOM), an inter-university consortium of Flemish universities, ZB will provide bibliometric data for the ongoing evaluation. For the duration of PFI, annual bibliometric indicators for specialist publications and co-publications from universities and non-university research institutes (German Research Foundation, Fraunhofer Society, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association and Max Planck Society) will be recorded. The indicators are to be processed into a bibliometric analysis complete with explanations and interpretations. This analysis provides a basis for specialist discussion and the research policy goals agreed on as part of PFI.
ZB and digital science firm Altmetric.com are part of a pioneering cooperation in the conception and documentation of alternative metrics. As part of the collaboration, current online scientific research-related activities are monitored. Among the alternative indicators used are, for example, the number of times that articles are accessed in databases, idea exchanges on online discussion forums, and comments on relevant social media channels. The end result is a feasibility study of altmetric indicators for science management; for example, the range of research coverage in public discussion and its effect on society.
The success in winning the tender sees the Central Library strengthening its collaboration with BMBF.
