Open Access Publication of the Month – Jiyun Zhang, Dr. Jens A. Hauch, Prof. Christop J. Brabec (IEK-11)
16 May 2024
To encourage us all to broaden our horizons, each month the Central Library selects one open access publication from the JuSER publications portal to be featured in the newsletter of Forschungszentrum Jülich.
In the open access publication of the month for May 2024, Jiyun Zhang, Jens A. Hauch, and Christoph J. Brabec from IEK-11 write a comprehensive review that summarizes their decade-long (2014-2024) efforts with respect to automation in emerging photovoltaic technologies.
As part of efforts to combat climate change with cleaner energy solutions, the creation of innovative photovoltaic materials has emerged as a central area of scientific research. Supporting these efforts, automated and robot-assisted laboratories, known as Materials Acceleration Platforms (MAPs) and Device Acceleration Platforms (DAPs), are revolutionizing the way new materials are discovered and optimized.
The paper sheds light on the latest advancements in automation for perovskite and organic solar cell technologies. It also highlights the utilization of a robot-based, high-throughput experimentation technique to address the common optimization challenges encountered with extensive multidimensional compositions and parameter spaces. Finally, the paper proposes a holistic concept and technology – a self-driven autonomous material and device acceleration platform (AMADAP) laboratory – for the discovery and development of autonomous functional solar materials.
The open access publication entitled “Toward Self-Driven Autonomous Material and Device Acceleration Platforms (AMADAP) for Emerging Photovoltaics Technologies” was published in the journal Accounts of chemical research.
