Successful cross-institutional research
In a remarkable interdisciplinary collaboration within Forschungszentrum Jülich, scientists from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (IBG-1), the Institute of Bioinformatics (IBG-4) and the Institute of Structural Biochemistry (IBI-7) have succeeded in publishing a comprehensive characterisation of the C-methyltransferase SgMT from Streptomyces griseoviridis. In the publication, Mona Haase from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry describes, among other things, the structural elucidation of the enzyme using X-ray crystallography and the investigation of the binding behaviour using molecular dynamics simulations and docking experiments.
