Bibliometric Data from ZB for CHE University Ranking 2014/2015

Business computing included for the first time

The German Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), supported by the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Foundation for the Promotion of the German Rectors’ Conference, publishes a ranking list of German universities every year.

The Central Library’s Bibliometrics team contributes to the CHE University Ranking by providing bibliometric statistics. The results are published in the Studienführer supplement of the national newspaper Die Zeit.

Since 1998, the CHE University Ranking has provided the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of the departments in participating German-language universities, universities of applied science, and universities of cooperative education in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The criteria-based multidimensional ranking provides readers with information for choosing courses of academic study and universities. In 2014, the ranking received the “IREG approved” label for transparency in methodology and data acquisition.

Since 2008, the Central Library’s Bibliometrics team has provided publication and citation data for the previous three-year period, covering the assessment criteria in the research module for the CHE University Ranking. This data is then used to conduct a pre-defined analysis taking into account the publication culture of the disciplines.

This year, the data was updated for economics. Web of Science (business studies, economics, business computing) and Scopus (business computing) were the databases used as sources of data for the analysis.
