Central Library Involved in Standardization Initiative COUNTER

Irene Barbers has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the international standardization project COUNTER by the initiative’s Board of Directors.

Standards set by COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources) allow quality-based usage analyses of online resources.
The Central Library (ZB) uses the data collected for continuous evaluation and to improve service with regard to electronic journals, databases, and other services licensed for Jülich’s scientists.

Ms Barbers, as one of two German members of the committee, will represent Forschungszentrum Jülich’s and the Helmholtz Association’s interests. In future, she will be actively involved in the further development and dissemination of international standards set by COUNTER.

The appointment once again demonstrates ZB’s international networking activities in the increasingly important information sector.
