New Project Involving ZB Launched – “Open Access Scenario Analyses” (OASA)

The project “Open Access Scenario Analyses” (OASA), which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), was launched at the beginning of the year and will run for 36 months. The project website went online in June.
Open Access Scenario Analyses (OASA)
Within the OASA project, the ZB is responsible for leading the work package on data collection, aggregation, and analysis. We collect data on publications and the associated costs, and analyse their distribution across the entire information supply system using various parameters. The objectives of the work package are to develop a conceptual framework for data collection, carry out data collection and analysis, and create a concept for a sustainable data infrastructure. This involves utilizing resources such as open data and relying on existing standards such as the openCost metadata schema.

In the OASA project, the Central Library (ZB) of Forschungszentrum Jülich is working together with the Helmholtz Open Science Office, the Berlin School of Library and Information Science at Humboldt-Universität, the University Library at RWTH Aachen University, and Leipzig University Library.
Open Access Scenario Analyses (OASA) – About
The OASA project conducts data analyses on financial and organizational structures, develops scenarios for further addressing the open access transformation, and formulates recommendations regarding activities in the fields of commercial, science-led, and academically supported open access publishing.
Through the OASA project, we are addressing the financial dimensions of the open access transformation, thereby complementing the Transform2Open project. OASA addresses the Open Access Strategy of the Alliance of Science Organizations and the recommendations of the German Science and Humanities Council regarding the need for cost transparency and cost efficiency for the transformation.
