Visiting Amyris Inc. in Emeryville, USA
Dr. Jan Marienhagen visited the California biotech company Amyris in Emeryville for a scientific exchange on the microbial production of fine chemicals and fuels from renewable resources on February 28th. During that day he visited laboratories and the pilot plant, and had several individual meetings and discussions with scientists from Amyris. In addition, Dr. Marienhagen gave a presentation about the current research activities of the IBG-1.
Amyris was founded in 2003 by Jay D. Keasling and other scientists of the University of California at Berkeley. The company is successfully implementing its technology platform in the field of synthetic biology to develop strategies for the sustainable production of pharmaceutically important building blocks (such as artemisinic acid, a precursor of the anti-malarial drug artemisinin) fine chemicals and biofuels.
