8th International BioSC Symposium "Bioeconomy and sustainability – Opportunities, expectations, responsibilities"

The 8th International BioSC Symposium focused on how bio-based solutions can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Almost 200 participants from science, business and politics spent two exciting days at lectures, panel discussions and poster sessions. Thorsten Menne, Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, opened the symposium and presented in the presence of the namesake the BioSC's Christian Patermann Award 2024 to Benedikt Wynands, Forschungszentrum Jülich, for his outstanding interdisciplinary supervision of doctoral theses on the bioeconomy.

Fabian Kolodzy, RWTH Aachen University/DWI, as well as Berith Rothkranz and Lars Halle, both Forschungszentrum Jülich, were awarded the BioSC Poster Prize. The newly awarded PRACC Poster Prize for climate-relevant bioeconomy research went to Marcel Mann and Paul Cordero, both from RWTH Aachen University.

The next BioSC Symposium will take place on November 24-25, 2025 in Bonn.
