“Quantitative metabolomics: a phantom?” – review published in Trends in Biotechnology

Cover TIB

Quantitiative metabolomics belongs to the most important tools for metabolic engineering and systems biology of microorganism. Since almost 10 years, the IBG-1 is successfully working on the continuous improvement of underlying measurement methods. However, the accurate determination of intracellular metabolite concentrations is still a great challenge regarding both the experimental and analytical part. In our recent article “Quantitative metabolomics: a phantom?” we critically discuss the actual state of the art in quantitative metabolomics and especially focus on potential errors sources during sample processing and analysis, and discuss concrete approaches to minimize them.
