Title: Developing Production Strains in a Biofoundry and Pilot Plant
Abstract: The DTU Biosustain Biofoundry focuses on engineering advanced production strains, enzymes, and processes through a design–build–test–learn methodology. In addition to supporting researchers at the Center, the primary goal of the DTU Biosustain Biofoundry is to bridge the technological valley of death and advance selected research projects to develop cell factories for chemical or protein production.
The aim is to enhance the value of these projects and increase their commercial success potential, such as through spin-out companies or attractive licensing agreements with larger enterprises. Research groups at the Center bring their ideas to proof-of-concept, and the Biofoundry provides additional resources to promising projects, supporting their rapid development to a first prototype. The project is then transferred to our prepilot plant for process optimization and scale-up.
This presentation will introduce the DTU Biosustain Biofoundry, showcase selected technology examples for cell factory design, and highlight a case study from idea to spin-off company.
