JuLib eXtended Information Portal – Access Currently Only Possible via JuNet

8 April 2025

The JuLib eXtended information portal is currently only accessible via Forschungszentrum Jülich’s wired data network (JuNet). All Jülich employees can still access the information portal from locations outside FZJ via VPN. You can still search, find, download, and order literature as usual.

The restrictions also apply to JuLib as a browser search engine and JuLibSPA, our mobile app for literature searches.

We are working on enabling access from the IP range of the German National Research and Education Network (DFN) in the coming weeks. In the longer term, we are discussing and developing a sustainable technical solution together with other affected institutions in Germany.

The reason for restricting the public use of JuLib eXtended is the massive increase in automated requests (bot requests). The metadata for the media listed in the information portal and the available documents are requested and downloaded by the bots. This problem, which is related to the training of AI applications, poses a challenge to IT systems worldwide, which are designed for normal use and not for thousands of additional requests per minute. In the short term, we therefore have to limit access to JuLib eXtended from outside FZJ in order to provide our researchers with the expected, customary resources at a reasonable speed.

Thank you for your understanding.
