JURECA Porting and Tuning Workshop 2016
JURECA is JSC's latest general purpose supercomputer reaching 1.8 (CPU) + 0.44 (GPU) Petaflop/s. Production on JURECA started mid 2015 with the full system available by the end of 2015. Although it largely appears to a standard cluster, it is necessary to get accustomed to the hard- and software in order to get the most out of this research tool. During the course you will about the vital steps to reach maximum performance which will be more involved if starting from the predecessor JUROPA.
The aim of this hands-on workshop is to support current users of JURECA in porting their software, in analysing its performance, and in improving its efficiency. The workshop topics start with an introduction to JURECA's hard- and software and related best practices. It will also explain the available performance and debugging tools and explain parallel I/O with its data formats. Other talks then provide more in-depth knowledge on topics like SIMDsation or accelerator programming. The full agenda will soon be published.
It is highly recommended that project PIs send at least one expert on their code to this workshop.
Prerequisites
Participants should belong to a currently active compute project on JURECA (project-ID!) and should already have an active user account (user-id!). Test runs during the workshop will be done on the participants' own project accounts.
In order to gain maximum benefit from this workshop, participants should have an in-depth (hands-on) knowledge of the algorithms and codes used in their project.
In addition, we also ask participants to prepare a test case to evaluate the initial performance of their code and to monitor the progress.
Application
Note that in the application form we ask some information about your project and code in order to better plan the workshop program.
Due to available space, the maximal number of participants is limited.
Participants will be notified in mid May 2016.
Contact
For any questions concerning the workshop please send an e-mail to d.broemmel@fz-juelich.de (Dr. Dirk Brömmel).

To access JSC you first need to sign up as a visitor to Forschungszentrum Jülich at the main gate. We will have provided the necessary data and information to our Visitors' Reception. Please note, however, that each participant must present a valid identity card or passport to be able to enter the Forschungszentrum. In case there any problems, mention the JURECA workshop and the local contact Dirk Brömmel.
If you arrive by bus on the following days, entering through the gate will be possible with your visitor badges without the need of getting off the bus.
Once you arrive at JSC, you can then register for the workshop.
