“More than Recycling”: IBG-1 and IMET contribute to the circular-economy exhibition at the Vienna Technical Museum
Innovative research on biological plastic degradation presented in multimedia format
Joint research carried out by the Microbial Catalysis working group of the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences – IBG-1 and by IMET has been included in the newly opened exhibition “More than Recycling” at the Vienna Technical Museum. Focusing on innovative strategies for a circular economy and sustainability, the exhibition highlights, among other things, current research aimed at solving the plastic problem.
In addition to scientific videos from the IBG-1–IMET collaboration that demonstrate the breakdown of polyester-polyurethane nanoparticles by bacteria and their enzymes, exhibits are on display illustrating the manufacture of more readily degradable fishing nets. These nets are based on building blocks produced with Ustilago cultures.
„More than Recycling“ is an international exhibition running at the Vienna Technical Museum until the end of 2026. It is dedicated to the transition from linear consumption to circular thinking, showcasing innovative approaches from research, industry, and society.
