Chemoenzymatic Total Synthesis of Lansai B

We are proud to share the recent publication of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Chemistry – A European Journal, titled "Chemoenzymatic Total Synthesis of Lansai B".

In this work, Marcel Schatton and Mona Haase (joint first authors), together with Julia Tenhaef and Catharina Gronkowsky, report the efficient total synthesis of the complex natural product Lansai B from the simple building block 5-bromoindole.

Using a chemoenzymatic approach with a tryptophan synthase and a characterized C3-methyltransferase, the core scaffold is built in just six steps. The synthesis is completed by a late-stage Suzuki coupling and N-methylation to isolate the final compound.

We warmly congratulate the team and thank everyone involved in this successful collaboration!
