Crowd Experiment at University of Wuppertal
Five hundred students test how dangerous overcrowding at entrances can be avoided
Jülich, 26 January 2018 – Overcrowding can occur very quickly at the entrance of a concert or sports event. Experts from Forschungszentrum Jülich, the University of Wuppertal, and Ruhr University Bochum recently recreated such a situation experimentally, with the help of Wuppertal students as participants. They were interested in the causes of such dangerous overcrowding, and what can be done to avoid it. Earlier experiments showed that the tight gathering of people can be alleviated by crowd control barriers. Within the scope of the new experiments, the researchers investigated further factors that influence overcrowding.
