Our compass for good research

As one of the largest research centres in Europe, we aim to have a big impact. We assume responsibility for society – as well as for our team. Because ultimately, we believe that scientific excellence can only be achieved in a working environment in which everyone is valued and allowed to fulfil their potential.

At Forschungszentrum Jülich, we are focused on the major challenges facing modern society. Our mission is to find solutions for a better tomorrow. We see our campus as an inspiring starting point to achieve this goal – a place that attracts creative minds from all over the world and promotes interdisciplinary work. We conduct world-class research and are internationally networked. At the same time, our heart beats in the Rhineland. As a strong partner, we aim to open up prospects for the future here – and to provide the impetus to make an impact far beyond the region.

In order for our vision to become reality, we live and work according to binding values. First and foremost, this means that we strive to achieve scientific excellence. We are only able to successfully assume responsibility for society because our research fulfils the highest standards. Our scientists are continually being recognized for their achievements. It is not without reason that they count among the most frequently cited scientists worldwide. Through their research, they contribute to the sustainable development of the world, while also ensuring that their findings can be accessed and used by politics, business, and civil society.

A respectful working environment

We are convinced that scientific excellence can only be achieved when different voices and perspectives come together. That is why diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities are important aspects of our everyday work. We are thus able to create a respectful working environment in which everyone can achieve their potential, benefit from each other’s differences, and inspire one another. Our actions are guided by the principle of honesty. We aim to always be honest, fair, and open with each other as well as with the public. This is something we demonstrate, for instance, in our transparent processes and quality-assured publishing.

Ensuring integrity

We are pursuing a great mission through our work. This makes it all the more important for us to know that all our employees take the responsibility that comes with this seriously. We are therefore committed to complying with legal provisions, internal regulations, and basic ethical principles. An important aspect of this is our digital whistleblower system. Employees as well as external stakeholders can use it to anonymously report possible misconduct or breaches of duty. We make sure to follow up on all these reports, since integrity is our greatest asset.
