Diversity on campus
Some come as early career researchers, others as established researchers, some stay for a few weeks, others for good. The research centre wants to offer guest researchers optimal conditions.
Never before have scientists been as well connected as they are today. Forschungszentrum Jülich supports this through its international alignment. We are convinced that the big issues facing humanity can only be solved by combining a wide variety of perspectives. That is why we build bridges between disciplines as well as between countries.
We believe that intercultural exchange and mutual respect are the key to success. This can be felt on the campus of Forschungszentrum Jülich. Our around 7,200 employees come from 111 countries. They work and conduct research together with 1,200 visiting scientists at Jülich. At the same time, Forschungszentrum Jülich is active beyond campus: on all continents, Jülich scientists are involved in programmes, projects, and collaborations.
Internationalization takes place in a variety of ways – from direct exchanges with researchers worldwide or collaborations with foreign partner institutions to the establishment of Science Bridges and research policy-driven cooperation in large international consortia.
Forschungszentrum Jülich offers extensive support to help researchers from all over the world feel at home on campus. Read about onboarding and various forms of support and assistance for new international employees.
Jülich research is international: Forschungszentrum Jülich is involved in programmes, projects, and collaborations on every continent. Efforts to achieve an international scientific community and an international campus do not just target established scientists but also early-career scientists. Funding programmes and scholarships help early-career scientists gain experience in other countries, for example at Forschungszentrum Jülich
With its internationalization strategy known as Internationalization@Jülich, Forschungszentrum Jülich is stepping up its activities aimed at internationalizing science and innovation, taking its cues from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF), among others. The objective is to expand international partnerships and raise their profile globally.
Maintaining and enhancing national and international relationships and partnerships is an integral part of Jülich’s strategy. A key player here is the infrastructure division National and International Relations. It advises and supports the Board of Directors in matters related to national and international partnerships. At the same time, it supports Jülich institutes in the concrete organization of national and international relations.
International research leads to new findings. This is reflected in the numerous publications that Jülich researchers publish with scientists from all over the world. These works are cited frequently and have been awarded prizes for their excellence.
