The Brain as a Model for the Computer Technology of Tomorrow
Jülich, 8 January 2020 – Forschungszentrum Jülich hopes to work together with RWTH Aachen University to create added value in the Rhineland using neuro-inspired computer technologies. Researchers at Jülich are already working with scientists from RWTH Aachen University on innovative materials and components for these technologies. North Rhine-Westphalia’s State Minister of Culture and Science, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, attended the event today, at which Thomas Rachel, Member of the German Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Research (BMBF) presented the official notification of funding for the project “Neuro-inspired Artificial Intelligence Technologies for the Electronics of the Future (NEUROTEC)” to Prof. Wolfgang Marquardt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich, Prof. Rainer Waser, Director at the Peter Grünberg Institute – Electronic Materials, and Thomas Trännapp, Permanent Deputy Chancellor of RWTH Aachen University. The German Federal Government is funding the research project, run by Prof. Waser, with over € 13 million within the scope of its immediate action programme for structural change. It is the third project through which Forschungszentrum Jülich hopes to contribute towards successful structural change together with partners from the region.
