"Our research must lead to innovation" - Successful Premiere of the Addventure Night at Forschungszentrum Jülich
Jülich, January 10, 2024 - On January 9, 2024, transfer actors from the fields of science and business gathered at Forschungszentrum Jülich to participate in the first "Addventure Night" - an event dedicated to the interplay of innovation and entrepreneurship in science and the exchange of ideas.
The event, attended by Jülich scientists from all research areas and external experts, provided a platform for exchanging thoughts on the challenges and opportunities in the field of scientific innovation and venture building.
Excellent research with a clear purpose

The opening was led by board member Dr. Ir. Peter Jansens, who emphasized the strategic value of innovation for both Forschungszentrum Jülich and society:
"Excellent Research is not a goal in its own right. Our research must serve a purpose and help society to deal effectively with challenges that arise from the digital revolution, the energy transition and the circular economy. Our research must lead to innovation – and innovation can take different forms – ranging start-ups to new business development and incremental improvements."
Partnerships for a strong future
In the face of growing societal challenges and complex conditions, Jansens stressed the need for visionary scientists to work in an environment that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and creative solutions. Not only financial support but also open collaboration between science, industry, and administration is crucial: "We need entrepreneurs with skill and perseverance, we need partners in venture building, people with access to funding, with business acumen and a strong network with relevant contacts."
Three perspectives on innovation in science

The event presented three perspectives on innovation through its keynote speakers: Transfer-Enabler Bram Wijlands, Managing Director of Max-Planck-Innovation, Dr. Ansgar Schleicher, Board Member of Venture Capital Techvision Fonds, and Priavoid CEO Philipp Bürling provided deep insights into their experiences and findings on the path to successful research transfer to the market.
After the presentations, participants had the opportunity to network in a stimulating atmosphere. Theme cafés facilitated discussions on specific issues and created space to meet like-minded individuals and promote dialogue among various stakeholders in the field of innovation.
Transfer bridges between science and business
"Innovation is not just the result of individual efforts but rather a collective process that connects research and market. Our event created the space where this exchange could take place. We will build on this momentum with future events and platforms to forge more transfer bridges between research and business," concludes Dr. Christian Cremer, Head of Innovation Management at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The Addventure Night marks a milestone for Forschungszentrum Jülich, actively advocating for the promotion of innovation and venture building. The involvement of experts in venture building and venture capital, as well as the participation of internal and external stakeholders, illustrates Forschungszentrum's clear commitment to sustainable innovation promotion.
More events planned
Forschungszentrum Jülich looks forward to continuing the exchange through additional formats. Future events will contribute to strengthening innovation and advancing synergies between science and business.
