Jülich, 1 September 2016 - Federal President Joachim Gauck is visiting Forschungszentrum Jülich today. The German head of state and his partner, Daniela Schadt, are scheduled to spend about two hours on campus where Jülich scientists give them insights into brain research and supercomputing, as well as Alzheimer’s research and support for young scientists.
Gauck’s first stop this morning was the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) where Prof. Katrin Amunts provided an insight into the virtual model of a human brain.
At the institute of Complex Systems, Prof. Dieter Willbold and his team presented their research on the protein structures of the brain and the development of drug candidates for treating Alzheimer’s disease.
Finally, Forschungszentrum Jülich showed the Federal President and Daniela Schadt examples of its expertise throughout all stages of education - from the "Kleine Füchse" daycare centre and the work conducted at JuLab right up to the Vocational Training Centre.
