Taiwanese Science Minister Visits Forschungszentrum Jülich

Jülich, 2 September 2016 – Prof. Hung-Duen Yang was scheduled to visit three different institutes at Jülich today. The Taiwanese Minister of Science and Technology gathered insights into current developments in such diverse fields as energy research, bioeconomy, plant science, and climate research.

At the Institute of Energy and Climate Research, Prof. Olivier Guillon presented the latest findings in the field of materials synthesis and battery research. The minister then moved on to the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, where he learnt about the national bioeconomy strategy. At the Institute of Energy and Climate Research, Prof. Yang viewed the SAPHIR atmosphere simulation chamber used by troposphere researchers and spoke to scientists from the IAGOS climate research programme. A second Taiwanese airliner recently joined this project carrying measuring instruments on board to record relevant trace gases and cloud particles in the atmosphere.

Prof.Hung-Duen Yang is currently visiting Germany to further promote German-Taiwanese cooperation in science and research, which has already been in place for many decades. His visit to Germany is his first trip abroad after taking up office in May of this year.
